Viscount Abu Nur Rustam ibn Abdallah

Kingdom of An Tir

Rustam is an early 15th C. Persian. I’ve always had an interest in the fighting arts and have dabbled in eastern martial arts and trained extensively in modern fencing. I’ve swung rattan in the SCA for 32 years and was Knighted by Gunnarr and Gabriell in 1992. While most of my SCA life has been in An Tir, I also played in Caid for 6 years.

Throughout my time in the SCA, my passion has been fighting. I am always watching for new ideas and finding ways to integrate them into my own practice. Being of moderate stature, and getting “longer in the tooth”, my preferred techniques emphasize fluid motions with follow-throughs to minimize injury and maximize results. I treasure these opportunities to share what I have learned and to help others enjoy this wonderful sport and society as much as I do.

Fru Aldgudana Gunnarsdottir

I am Fru Aldgudana Gunnarsdottir and this will be my 4th Sport of Kings that I have taught at! After attending my first Sport of Kings as a student I was so inspired by the event, the teachers, and the atmosphere that I needed to become a part of it! I spoke with some of the organizers at that time and, after being told that silk painting would be well received and fit with the theme of the event, I set out to learn this new skill. Two years later I taught my first class.

I have always had a passion for enabling people to try new things and have fun while doing so. I love being able to share my knowledge and excitement with my students and find that I learn as much from them as they do from me. I’m so happy to be a part of this wonderful event and counted among the talented and amazing instructors here.

Ves Heill

Lady Alessandra da Montefeltro

Alessandra da Montefeltro/Denise Garlington – I have been enjoying the SCA since September of AS 30 (1995). Running Lists is a great way to get involved and help support this game that we all play. Being asked to run a Lists class at Sport of Kings in 2005 while in my second term as An Tir Kingdom Minister of Lists (2003-2007) was so amazing and teaching it was so much fun, they just haven’t been able to get rid of me since. These past few years I’m more often found behind the thrones on retinue, but you’ll still see me at the Lists table (be it armored, rapier, archery, or equestrian) whenever I have the opportunity.

Sir Cedric Wlfraven

I have been in the Society for over 25 years and in Armor for over 20. I take Tourney fighting and my inspiration very serious. When my wife and I made a serious commitment to the inspiration portion of our game my fighting actually went up a few levels. I was no longer just fighting for myself.

HL Drifa in Rauða

I have been tablet weaving for nearly a decade. And weaving fabric on a modern 4 harness loom and basics on a warp-weighted loom for about 4 years. I have been a finalist in the Kingdom Arts and Sciences Championship with entries in both tablet weaving and fabric. I enjoy teaching others this amazing craft and look forward to a brand new group to share my obsession with.

She has been teaching on both subjects for seventeen years. In addition, she has been both fascinated and inspired by the SCA context of the Consort in tournament fighting.

This is her second time as in instructor at Sport of Kings, and she is thrilled to be here.

Mistress Gulenay

I have been teaching rectangular construction for over 10 years.

Havordh Aettarbani

Kingdom of An Tir

Havordh Aettarbani (Brian Martin) grew up in the Washington, DC area and has been participating in one medieval group or another since the early 80′s. He started off like all kids who loved D & D and Tolkien, with a padded weapons group that was based on the fantasy worlds of Elves and Goblins, and of course…Orks! In Dagorhir, Havordh got to live a kid’s dream of running around and clobbering his friends and lived the life of a Half-Orc (and that’s why kids, you need to watch out for your first medieval name… Half-Orc=Havordh).

As he grew in his fighting, he found other organizations (bigger ponds) that used different weapons including rattan, Markland etc, and eventually found the Society for Creative Anachronism in 1987, and put forth all that training from a dozen years of 5 different styles, and types of combat all to use in the SCA. While teaching school in Guam in 1991, he became the Baron of the Far West in the Palentine Barony’s heavy tournament to choose the new Baron.

He was recognized by Jade, King of the West, and Shahenna his Queen as a Knight of the SCA in Japan in March of 1992. Within weeks of his Knighting, he had a terrible car accident which left him in a hospital for weeks and saw him coming home to Atlantia, where he worked his way from his wheelchair to a walker, to then using his sword as a cane. By the time he won his first crown for Mary-Grace in November of 2000, he said he felt like he was finally “back” to what he was before the accident.

In February of 2006, after two years in Drakenwald, Havordh won the Crown Tournament in Gleann Abhann and he became the 2nd King of Gleann Abhann and Reigned 3 more times in Gleann Abhann from 2007-2011. Havordh now lives in AnTir.

Duke Ieuan Gower

Though I am probably best known for roaming the tourney field as one of An Tir’s infamous “cheating lefties” I have gained a wide range of interests in the SCA over the past 15 years. I enjoy researching the 14th Century, particularly tourney culture and the arms and armour of the period. I dabble in heraldry, cast pewter, write poetry, gamble, build armour, shoot, fence, fight in a warband. Mundanely I am a Middle School teacher.

Many of my fighting beliefs and practices are grounded in a combination of a background in martial arts and, a fascination of historical combat, an interest in MMA and time spent exploring various fields of psychology, (sports, neuro, behavioural)

Mistress  Isabella Lucrezia Veneziano Martini

Member of the Order of the Laurel primarily for costume research and costuming. Have made fighting clothes for such fighters as Sir Arminius, Sir Max and Duke Sven. Fighting clothes research has focused largely on Roman soft kit.

Baroness Kateline MacFarlane

I’ve been playing in the SCA since AS 25. Heraldry was my first love and my first office was as Mountains Herald in the Barony of Three Mountains. After serving as Baroness of Three Mountains I’ve put more thought into the duties of a Court Herald, and created some clases and pamphlets to help folks do a better job. I’ve held the kingdom staff position of Mano d’Oro Herald for several years – my job is to encourage, mentor and assist Court Heralds and wanna be Court Heralds. I’ve always said the the Heralds have the best seat in the house – whether it’s Court or Field or Town Cry – we see it all. Come play!

Sir Lachlan MacLean

Kingdom of An Tir

Sir Lachlan MacLean. A 9th Century Scotsman taken north and made Man at Arms and then Squired to Viscount Sir Ulfgar Thorvaalson. Made a Knight by Duke Vik Vikingsons mighty hand. Sir Lachlan prides himself as a member of Clan Einar.

I joined the SCA in 1998. In 2009 I was Knighted. I have been a lifelong resident of the Kingdom of An Tir. Primarily a sword and shield practitioner, I also secretly dabble in viking spear and two handed sword. I leverage heavily on footwork, angles, ranging, and specific shot placement. I have a firm background in martial arts (mostly grappling/submission) which has allowed me to augment certain mundane techniques into effective defense and counter-punching strategies.

Marquessa Laurellen de Brandevin

Laurellen has been involved in researching, recreating, and teaching various A&S topics since she got sucked into the SCA nearly thirty years ago. While she specializes in clothing from the 16th century, almost any other topic is fair game. For Sport of Kings, she has done extensive research into the painting methods used on extant shields and banners in order to bring as much forward as possible to apply to Current Middle Ages shield and banner decoration.

Her Ladyship Lissette de la Rose

With 20 years of volunteer experience in the SCA HL Lissette de la Rose loves to share her passion for Water Bearing, Heraldry, Cooking, and Dance with anyone she can pin down long enough to talk to.

HRH Mary-Grace of Gatland

I have been in the SCA for just about 20 years now and the thing that impressed me at my first event and kept me coming back was the people, the clothing and my love of the pageantry of the high medieval tournament! Through the years (and some seriously awful garb) I have spent time learning about the role of the lady in the tournament, courts of love and more about the history that inspires our society. I love sharing my knowledge with anyone who will listen!

I was knighted in 2002 by Jarl William Tjorkillsson. Since then I have had the honor of being Kingdom Champion of An Tir three times, and I have been able to travel and teach all over this great Kingdom.

 Master Octar Wolfkiller

I have been know to make a decent pair of turn shoes.

 Sir Olin Ulfredsson

Kingdom of An Tir

Sir Olin began fighting at age 35 and was knighted in January 2004. In addition to a personal preference for large diameter rattan (3″ plus) and a close-in aggressive style, his three years of collegiate football blend together in a unique perspective. This translates to dynamic footwork, flow and power generation. Mostly commonly heard quote about Sir Olin? “He moves fast for a fat guy!”

Duke Paul of Bellatrix

Kingdom of An Tir

Paul Porter is a martial artist who enjoys teaching and exploring the techniques of fighting. Paul of Bellatrix joined the SCA in 1970, in the kingdom of the West.
